Under Utah law (Utah Code § 53G‑6‑803 and Utah Administrative Rule R277‑404), a parent or guardian may submit a parental exclusion (opt‑out) form to excuse their student from participating in any statewide assessment. When a student is opted out of a state test, the district will provide meaningful alternate academic work during the testing window so the student continues to engage in instruction. Choosing to opt a student out of testing will not result in an academic penalty for the student. Annual opt‑out requests must be submitted before the scheduled assessment using the district’s approved opt‑out form.
